The Group of Environmental Engineering and Microbiology (GEMMA) is located at the Department of Hydraulic, Maritime and Environmental Engineering (DEHMA) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. BarcelonaTech (UPC). The Group is dedicated to interdisciplinary research, innovation, knowledge transfer and education in environmental engineering; particularly in the fields of environmental biotechnologty, water supply, wastewater and solid waste treatment, and bioenergy generation.
Research facilities of the Technical University of Catalunia (UPC) include one analysis laboratory (80 m2) with equipment for determining conventional water quality parameters, sludge properties, anaerobic as well as aerobic biodegradability; and one reduced scale model laboratory (120 m2) with experimental water and wastewater treatment plants and equipment for hydraulic and geotechnical tests.
UPC will actively participate in the R&D activities within WP2 and WP3 with a special focus on the combination of constructed wetlands with potential pre-treatments (e.g. anaerobic) and post-treatments (i.e. soil aquifer treatment). He will also contribute to WP1 (Assessment) and the development of an overall R&D strategy (task 1.4). A research unit with a strong background in knowledge transfer, UPC will also contribute actively to the activities of the CoP and support the knowledge manager in preparing trainings and training supports (i.e. technical notes; NaWaKit). .
