The National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) was established in 1958 as Central Public Health Engineering Research Institute (CPHERI), when environmental concerns were limited to human health with a focus on water supply/sewage disposal/communicable diseases and to some extent on industrial pollution and occupational diseases. Since the 1970’s, it was renamed National Environmental Engineering Research Institute.

The approach of ESF is mostly the participatory planning approach, which brings together the stakeholders from all levels towards reaching an agreement and the final implementation of projects. ESF is also implementing tailor-made water optimisation strategies in cooperation with municipalities and private partners.

The Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) was founded in 1968 with headquarters in Mumbai. It is a voluntary body of professionals concerned and connected with water supply for municipal, industrial, agricultural uses and treatment and disposal of wastewater. IWWA focuses basically on the entire "Water Cycle" encompassing the environmental, social, institutional and financing issues.

The Shrishti Eco-Research Institute (SERI) started in 1995 with the aim towards a clean environment with the help of natural technologies; eco-technologies to treat wastes. The major objective of SERI is to develop low cost, efficient, indigenous technologies based on natural and ecological principles for the river basin management. Since its creation, SERI has effectively and successfully employed pollution control technologies using eco-technological principles to treat the pollution at source.

Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) was constituted in 1997 under the Maharashtra Water Supply and Sewerage Board for rapid development and proper regulation of Water Supply and Sewerage services in the State of Maharashtra. MJP with Central Office in Mumbai has field offices in the entire State and accounts for more than 8000 employees.

Pune Municipal Corporation
PMC

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was established in 1950 as a semi-government body created for providing services to Pune city. PMC controls the whole administration of Pune and is in charge of the civic needs and infrastructure of the metropolis. The executive power of the corporation is vested in the Municipal Commissioner, appointed by the Maharashtra state government. The corporation consists of directly elected co-operators headed by a Mayor. The total number of PMC members is 144.
