India Kick-off

A ceremony to inaugurate the EU-India cooperation in water research projects was held in Bangalore on the 10th of October 2012. The session was chaired by Prof. M. S. Mohan Kumar, Department of Civil Engineering, and Secretary, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Prof. C. S. Manohar, Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Dr. Wolfgang Burtscher, Deputy Director General – Directorate General for Research & Innovation, EC, Prof. B. N. Raghunandan, Dean - Engineering, Indian Institute of Science and Dr. M. Prithviraj, Executive Secretary, KSCST.

The Kick-off meeting of the NaWaTech project was held from 30 Aug - 1 Sep 2012 in Pune followed by a field visit in the second pilot town Nagpur on 3 Sep 2012.

The 14 partners of the Indian and European consortiums of Nawatech met together between the 30th of August and the 3rd of September in India. First workshops on definition of sustainability criteria, Nawatech compendium on natural and technical water treatment technologies and twinning of EU and Indian students were conducted, in addition to visits to potential test sites in Nagpur and Pune.  Also, Community of Practice kick-off meeting were held in Nagpur and Pune, gathering main stakeholders from the Nawatech initiatives. The CoP will allow us all to to learn from each other and establish a long term partnership in natural and technical water treatment systems.
